The Battle of Britain was one of the most iconic episodes of the Second World War. Forced back across the channel by a victorious Nazi war machine, it looked as if Britain would be invaded. But the war moved to the skies above South East England where pilots of many nations fought in what Winston Churchill called ‘Our Finest Hour’.


Day 1 > Arrive Kent

Our tour begins at the Battle of Britain Memorial at Capel le Ferne. Its memorials, replica aircraft and visitor’s centre will set the scene for our journey back to 1940 and the Battle of Britain. We will also visit one of the few remaining Luftwaffe graves in Kent at Lenham, before proceeding to our hotel in Ashford for two-nights. (D)

Day 2 > Battle of Britain

Our first stop today will be the Battle of Britain Museum at Hawkinge, a former RAF base where the 1960s movie Battle of Britain was filmed. We will then see RAF graves in the nearby cemetery at Hawkinge and have time for lunch in Canterbury. This afternoon we will travel to RAF Manston to visit the Spitfire and Hurricane Museum and nearby cemetery. (B,D)


Day 3 > Arrive France

This morning we will depart for north-west London to visit Bentley Priory Museum, a Fighter Command Headquarters in 1940, then continue to the Battle of Britain Bunker near Uxbridge to see a 1940 Ops Room. We will also visit Runnymede Memorial, where many of ‘The Few’ are commemorated, before returning to Kent and boarding a ferry to France where we will check in to our De Panne hotel for two nights.(B)

Day 4 > Operation Dynamo

On our final day we are in France where we link the story of Operation Dynamo, the evacuation at Dunkirk, to the Battle of Britain. We see the evacuation beaches and Dunkirk Mole, Dunkirk war Cemetery and Dunkirk Museum, as well as look at the story of RAF pilots shot down over France and the English channel. (B)

Day 5 > Depart

After breakfast, you may return by coach to the UK or end your tour in France. (B)
