Hellfire Pass Private Tour
Thailand is a kingdom of wonder, filled with spectacular natural, cultural, and historical attractions. The events that unfurled in Thailand during World War II can be appreciated at a number of historical sites, the most notable of which can be found in Kanchanaburi Province. We will tour the historical sites of Kanchanaburi by visiting the Death Railway, where thousands of Allied Prisoners of War died during construction, museums, and war cemeteries in various locations across the province. You can join our Private Tour on any day you choose, meaning your battlefield tour will easily slot into your holiday itinerary.
This morning you will be met in the lobby of your Bangkok hotel by your local guide and will then depart Bangkok for the 3-hour drive to Kanchanaburi. On arrival visit the Thailand–Burma Railway Centre which is an interactive museum, information and research facility dedicated to presenting the history of the Thailand–Burma Railway. After spending time exploring the museum you will visit the nearby Kanchanaburi Allied War Cemetery. Located in the centre of town, this cemetery is the final resting place of almost 7000 prisoners-of-war (POW’s) who lost their lives during the construction of the ‘Death Railway’. After spending time at the cemetery, you will then be transferred to your Kanchanaburi hotel to check in.

Today you will visit the excellent Hell Fire Pass and Memorial museum. This museum is a joint Australian/Thai project which is dedicated to those Australians and other Allied Prisoners of War and Asian labourers who suffered and died at Hellfire Pass and elsewhere in the Asia Pacific region during WW2. The museum explains to visitors the story of why and how the railway was built and attempts to convey the hardships and suffering endured by so many who were forced to work in extremely harsh conditions. If you are feeling energetic there is also the Memorial Walking Trail, a 4km trail along the now peaceful and serene old railway track. The Trail commences at Hellfire Pass Cutting, and incorporates a number of infamous features along the track, such as Compressor Cutting, Hintok Station, both the “Pack of Cards” and Three Tier Bridges, plus the panoramic view of Kwae Noi Look-out. Next visit the nearby Weary Dunlop Museum. You will then drive back to Kanchanaburi where you will visit the Chong Kai Allied War Cemetery, the resting ground of almost 2000 POW’s. (B)
