Itinerary

Day 1 > Amiens

This afternoon, check-in to your centrally located hotel in Amiens, the capital of Picardy, a town rich in art and history, the perfect place to enjoy the afternoon at leisure. Possible optional activities include exploring the famous gothic Notre-Dame cathedral which is listed as a UNESCO world heritage site. Between mid-June and mid-September, there is a wonderful sound and light show that dances on the face of this spectacular historic building, free for all to enjoy. Another site of interest includes the house of Jules Verne, well renown French novelist, poet and playwright and the second most-translated author in the world. For art lovers, the Musée de Picardie will be re-opening in early 2020 after some considerable renovations. Collections stretch from prehistory to the 19th century and form one of the largest regional museums in France.

Day 2 > Amiens - Senlis - Chantilly

This morning after breakfast, check-out and walk from your hotel to the ‘hortillonages’(floating gardens) of Amiens covering 300 hectares and interlaced with 65km of small canals. The best way to explore this magnificent attraction is by meandering through the enchanting waterways on a gondola. After this wonderful experience, you may wish to enjoy an authentic French meal at one of the many restaurants located adjacent to the gardens and facing the Somme River. ‘Le Quai’ is a personal favourite of Mat McLachlan Battlefield Tours. Return to your hotel to collect your belongings and be met by a local guide. Depart Amiens and travel approx. 1 hour and a half to Senlis, a typical French town punctuated with a medieval twist. Tracing its’ roots all the way back to Roman times and beyond, Senlis’ most prominent role in history is when it was home to the monarchs of France. Spend some time wandering down the cobblestone streets with your guide, visiting the imposing Notre-Dame Cathedral, adjacent 16th century library or ancient Royal castle. Afterwards, continue to the remarkable Domaine de Chantilly, an exceptional site consisting of a historical castle, Great Stables and 115 acres of impressive gardens. At the end of this eventful day, you will be transferred to your hotel in Chantilly to check in and enjoy the evening at leisure in this wonderful town. (B)

Day 3 > Depart Chantilly
