Day 1 > Waterloo

This morning your historian will meet you at your Brussels hotel or Waterloo train station. You will then drive to Waterloo and spend the day touring the battlefield, including the Lion Monument (Butte de Lion), the Waterloo 1815 Museum, the Panorama of Waterloo, Hougoumont Farm, La Haye Sainte and more. You can choose to do this via your private touring vehicle or, if you are feeling fit, you can walk sections of the battlefield with your guide. At the end of this memorable day you will have gained a fascinating insight into the battle and the reasons for the Allied victory. Late afternoon you will check in to your hotel in the heart of the battlefields, where your evening is free.

Day 2 > Further afield

Today will be spent exploring the broader context of the Waterloo battle, at historic sites in the area. Your historian will tailor this day to exactly what you want to see, but options include Wellington’s headquarters in the town of Waterloo; Napoleon’s headquarters at Caillou; the village of Ligny, scene of Napoleon’s last victory; the village of Placenoit, where Prussian troops fought a bloody battle against Napoleon’s Imperial Guard; the crucial battlefield of Quatre Bras and more. In the afternoon, you will farewell the Waterloo battlefields, and your historian will drop you back at your hotel in Brussels or Waterloo train station. (B)
